Historical Association Great Debate

U6 students Sam Pickup and Tom Hodson spoke to an audience of students and senior academics at the University of Sheffield last week. The topic was whether ‘The 1918 extension of the franchise was the most significant moment in British democratic history’.
Both spoke eloquently on their chosen arguments, with the judges awarding Sam the regional prize for his case that the English Civil War was indeed ‘the most significant moment in British democratic history’. Congratulations to Sam who will now go on to represent Birkdale and the wider region at the Historical Association's National Finals, held in the Palace of Westminster, later this year.
