Cricket finished with a series of resounding successes as the U12, U14 and U15 teams all ended up as Sheffield champions in their respective cup finals at the Abbeydale Sports ground.
The U12 and U14 teams came up against teams from King Ecgbert’s. The U12s looked to be on the back foot having set a target of 93 runs to win and King Ecgbert’s well on the way to victory with 63 runs off the first 10 overs for the loss of only one wicket. Captain Benji Hardman came on for a second spell of bowling and two quick wickets followed by a further two wickets in the next over from Aravind Anoop quickly had the opposition reeling. The composure of the U12 team remained and they came out victors, winning by 9 runs. It was a thrilling performance by the whole team. The U14s had a more comfortable victory with another exceptional batting performance from Romir Singh and tight bowling and fielding that ensured a comprehensive victory. The U15 team played their old foes, Fir Vale, who have competed against Birkdale in the final for the past four years. A composed batting performance from Mohit Koganti (46) and fine bowling from all the bowlers, especially Satyam Verma who took 4 wickets for just 10 runs, meant that Birkdale took the spoils once again this year. It was a terrific day of cricket and congratulations to all the boys who participated.
