Physical Education (AQA 7582)

The area of Physical Education is relatively new as an examination subject; it is in simple terms an academic reward for the time a student spends in the gym, pool, sports hall or games field.  It has fought for some time to achieve the status of other subjects and must not be seen as a “soft option”.

Written exam: 2 hours, 105 marks, 35% of A-level

Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport

Section A: Exercise physiology and biomechanics

Section B: Sport psychology

Section C: Sport and society and technology in sport

Written exam: 2 hours, 105 marks, 35% of A-level

Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport

What's assessed

Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity.

Plus:   written/verbal analysis of performance.

How it's assessed

Internal assessment, external moderation, 90 marks, 30% of A-level

 

An Advanced level qualification in PE is rapidly becoming an essential pre-requisite for specialist study in Physical Education and Sports Studies in Higher Education, and is also a suitable qualification for other areas of study.  The specification provides an excellent foundation for students intending to pursue careers in Teaching and Coaching, Sports Development, the Leisure Industry, Recreational Management, the Health and Fitness Industry and Professional Sport.
